The main event of the 2026 League of Legends World Championship begins on 23 October in Allen, Texas. Sixteen teams enter the Swiss stage, and eight will leave for the knockouts. Hanging over all of it is one question: can T1, champions in 2023, 2024 and 2025, become the first team to win four Worlds in a row?

Schedule and Venues

  • Play-In: 15–18 October, Riot Games Arena, Los Angeles.
  • Swiss stage: 23–31 October, Credit Union of Texas Event Center, Allen, Texas.
  • Quarter-finals and semi-finals: 3–8 November, also in Allen.
  • Final: 14 November, Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York.

The base prize pool is US$5 million, with US$1 million for the winners.

How the Swiss Stage Works

Each round pairs teams with the same win-loss record. Three wins sends a team to the knockouts; three losses sends it home. Over five rounds, that leaves eight qualifiers. The first two rounds are best-of-one, so one bad draft or a single mistake can cost a team dearly. Matches that decide qualification or elimination are best-of-three. In round one, teams from the same region cannot meet. For the full background on the format, see our guide to how Worlds works.

The Sixteen Teams

  • Korea (LCK): Gen.G (season champions), Hanwha Life Esports (runners-up and MSI 2026 winners), T1, Dplus KIA.
  • China (LPL): Anyone's Legend, Bilibili Gaming, Top Esports, Invictus Gaming.
  • EMEA (LEC): G2 Esports, Movistar KOI.
  • North America (LCS): Team Liquid Alienware, LYON.
  • Asia-Pacific (LCP): Team Secret Whales, CTBC Flying Oyster.
  • Brazil (CBLOL): Los Grandes.
  • Play-In winner: Karmine Corp or MVK Esports.

The Last Ticket: Karmine Corp vs MVK

The final Swiss spot goes to the winner of today's Play-In decider (18 October) between Karmine Corp, the LEC's third team, and MVK Esports from the LCP. Karmine Corp have looked the strongest team in Los Angeles. They edged Cloud9 KIA 3–2 and then swept MVK 3–0. MVK came back through the lower bracket, beating FURIA 3–1. FURIA and Cloud9 KIA are out.

The Favourites

T1 arrive as the third LCK seed, which is a familiar position for them: they have often done better at Worlds than their domestic record suggested. Four straight titles would be unprecedented. Gen.G won the LCK season and are the most consistent team in the world over the past few years, but still lack a recent Worlds title. Hanwha Life won MSI this year, so they have already beaten the best teams in the world at an international event in 2026. Of the Chinese teams, Anyone's Legend come in as the LPL's top seed and Bilibili Gaming have the most experience of deep runs.

The Teams to Watch

G2 Esports are Europe's best hope and are in Pool 1 for the draw, so they avoid the other top seeds in round one. The two North American teams play with home support in Texas. Team Liquid Alienware and LYON would both be happy just to reach the knockouts. In the best-of-one opening rounds, a team from a smaller region can steal a win off anyone.

Our Read

On form, the title is most likely to go to a Korean team. All four LCK teams are realistic quarter-finalists, and three of them (Gen.G, Hanwha Life and T1) have a real case to win it. T1's record over the last three years is too strong to bet against, but HLE's MSI win means they have beaten the best teams in the world more recently than anyone else. Expect the LPL's top two to reach the knockouts, and expect at least one surprise from the best-of-one rounds.
